Biography

Cinda Thomas has studied the Alexander Technique with Bruce and Martha Fertman, Elisabeth Walker (trained with F.M. Alexander), Lucia Walker, Cynthia Mauney, Meade Andrews, Wendy Salkind and Nancy Romita. In 2001 she graduated from The Alexander Alliance in Philadelphia and in 2002 she became a certified Alexander Technique teacher with the Alexander Technique International. From the fall of 2004 to the spring of 2005 Cinda traveled to New York to study "The Carrington Way of Working" with John Nicholls, former teaching assistant to Walter and Dilys Carrington (both of whom trained with F. M. Alexander).

In addition to her Alexander Technique certification, Cinda has a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. She earned a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Vocal Performance from The University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. Cinda has also had extensive experience performing in recitals, concerts and opera in such organizations as the Cleveland Opera, Atlanta's Phoenix Opera and Atlanta's Repertory Opera Companies.

For over 25 years Cinda has worked with voices. She was formerly a faculty member at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where she taught studio voice, vocal pedagogy and vocal diction. During her tenure there she directed the opera workshop productions of The Old Maid and the Thief, Trouble in Tahiti, The Stoned Guest, Down in the Valley, A Game of Chance and Sunday Excursion. She was also on faculty at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, where she taught studio voice, vocal pedagogy, and vocal diction. She was also the director of Cornell College's Opera Workshop, and served as vocal coach and music director for Quilters, H.M.S. Pinafore, Perfectly Frank, Pippin, Into the Woods, and Drood.

Upon her relocation to Baltimore Cinda opened her own voice studio. She taught voice for The University of Maryland, Baltimore County and she assisted The University of Maryland, Baltimore County Opera Workshop as vocal coach. Cinda has also served on the faculty at The Peabody Preparatory, teaching voice and vocal fundamentals and has taught voice for The Morgan State University.

Presently Cinda's focus is her teaching and bringing awareness to individuals about the discoveries of F.M. Alexander. She maintains a private voice studio and teaches individual Alexander Technique lessons and workshops.
